I HATE DESKTOP SUPPORT!!

Have I mentioned before how much I hate working on broken PC’s? No? HA..let me tell you! My wife brings home virus ridden computers from her co-workers all the time. I keep telling her that I do network security…all she hears is “computer stuff”.

Last night I spent 5+ hours trying to clear the fake a/v trojan for Microsoft Security Essentials!! This one was beyond hell..it’s now MUCH smarter. I couldn’t do shit in safemode – no .exe would ever run…it stopped me from every clean I attempted. I booted a Kaspersky rescue linux cd and scanned the HD…found nothing…I booted Ubuntu and installed Avast and scanned the HD..nothing. I read a million forums that told me to rename hotfix.exe and all sorts of other files – that did nothing.

I was about to reinstall XP…I backed up all her files to thumb drive. Files scanned fine – nothing is really infected here – it’s just taking over running executables. Can’t run taskmanager, regedit etc etc…nothing worked. Everyone had a million fixes…One last idea popped into my head – it’s never worked before, but figured what the hell…I’m about to reload XP anyhow..might as well try..and O.M.G.!!!!@#&!$*@#!( IT WORKED

QUICK FIX RIGHT HERE:
Create a new admin account, install malwarebytes (or similar spybot s&d etc etc) – Run scan from the admin account. DONE

Well..not totally done – because this bad boy virus screwed with the AVG that they had installed..deleted it actually…so I installed Avast..much better any way for a free A/V. Then the IE settings were all custom so I set them all back to defaults..javascript and cookies were all turned off and not working right…just general clean up etc. But that’s it folks…for anyone that lucks out to find this desolate unknown website and has this problem – try that first..it may or may not work with you – but it did for me and that made me happy.

NOTE TO WIFE – I’M NOT A HAPPY PC FIXER GUY. 😉 But I do still love ya and I’m a lil happy you still think I can fix everything.
