So ever since I got into offroading – I’ve had this dream of running big ass one-ton Ford axles under my lil ol’ Jeep.  So a few years ago I found the EXACT 1979 Ford f250 Snow Plow edition truck I had been looking for.  These are the holy grail of axles to Jeepers and all I had to do was drive up near Chicago to get the truck..so I did!

Flash forward to this weekend…6 yrs after I had made the decision to go full size and use big axles…I got offered cash for the axles as they sat near my best friends shop for the past 2 years doing nothing…..what to do…what to do.  I sold em. 🙁  Yep – my dreams and aspirations of greatness with big ass redneck hillbilly tires and all…all of it down the drain!  haha

Well, it’s not all bad really.  I’ve really come to love my Jeep without the big ol hyped up axles and I’ve also come to the conclusion that driving a Jeep isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.  I’m tired of it being my daily driver – with 35″ tires and big ass lift and such – it gets MAYBE 11mpg.

Last year my Jeep

Today gas is costing damn near $4/gallon and a full tank only gets me about 180 miles but costs me $60-75 a week just for work.  I’ve actually parked the big beast and have been riding the Vespa..affectionately known as the pansy (baby blue in color).  The Vespa costs me about $5-7 a week or 2 and is making a lot more sense right about now!

But good gas mileage aside – I’m going miss my dream of having a big bad ass Jeep.  I think it’s time to trade her in for something more economical and or sporty small fun.  Live out my midlife crisis a lil in a sports coupe

Really want a mini Cooper Clubman S:

and maybe stick to some ATV fun on quads to get my outdoor/offroad fill.  Maybe someday when I grow up I can come back to Jeeps and do those again in a different capacity.  At least that’s what I keep telling myself.  I figure if I write about it here….I have a better chance at making it all come true!
