So I have had a bird problem at the house. Apparently this spring one of the big storms blew off one of my fireplace caps. I had no clue! Well, until a family of birds moved in! They built a nest about half way down. Said babies were hatched and then the entire family would stop by to help feed and teach them stuff. That took almost 2 months.

This is the one that flew off and how this all started…

So next I put a camera inside to wait them out. There appears to be at least 3..and sometimes upwards of 5-7 birds. 3 for sure stay inside from what I can tell..the babies. The rest are just sheltering in place and feeding them.

So now I’m noticing the noise is gone after a few months. But they come back to hide and sleep there at night every night. I need to get this thing covered, so I finally found a cover…THOSE THINGS ARE PRICEY!!

Today was move out day – I made sure from the bottom that no one was in there around noon…and got all my stuff together and ran up to the roof! New problem…WASPS! hahaha I started putting this black top on and 5 flew directly out and started bouncing off my head…remember, I’m standing on the roof…and am deathly afraid of heights! Somehow I slowly stood back and walked away calmly and sat down in the shade about 20 ft away and waited them out. Went back and tightened that top down and ran off to the ladder.

Back downstairs now watching the camera again to see if any movement at all. I set the alert sensitivity very high for movement and sound and waited. Nada. I was in the clear. so I thought….

Sunset:

Remember how I said they all come back at night!? BOOM!…I thought there was a car wreck out front and ran outside. Nothing. Walked around the house – nothing. Remember, I’m in the country now so it would have been strange anyhow…BOOM…I hear it again and go inside. Grab the phone and check the camera…BOOM…hear it again…

So, now I run outside to watch and sure enough – 3-5 birds are dive bombing the new cover trying to figure out how to get back into my chimney. Now I feel like crap and I’m the bad guy that evicted all the birds and left them homeless.
